Are you looking for ways to maximize your NetSuite usage? Here are some simple yet useful tips you can apply when setting preferences in NetSuite. This is meant to improve your efficiency when using the software.
In this tutorial, you will learn the following:
- Setting Preference (General)
- Setting Preferences for Internal ID (turned off)
- Setting Preferences for Internal ID (turned on)
I suggest you watch the video. It’s easier to understand if you are a visual/audio learner. The content below is the same as the video. It’s for those who learn by reading.
Setting Preferences
From the homepage, you will see settings. This page allows you to personalize your dashboard or to set preferences.
Here, you can update your account details such as security questions, email address, and password.
The settings can be placed anywhere in the dashboard, but it’s the one thing that cannot be removed from the dashboard.
Remember, the changes you do only affects your own page and how you view it. It doesn’t affect other users.
Once you click on set preferences, you can now change or set any of the following:
- Language
- Search Sorting
- Time Zone
- First Day of the Week
- Date and Time
- Number Format
- Option to Automatically Put a Place Decimal
If you are unsure of what an item is for, you can click on the item and see the Help field. Most of them are clickable, so if you find yourself lost, go ahead and click on them and read what each item does.
Setting Preferences for Internal ID (turned off)
In the set preference options, you will see “show internal IDs.” To turn this off, the box should be unchecked and saved as shown below.
The internal IDs are helpful because each general ledger account has its own unique ID. When you do a lot of csv updates or uploads, the quickest way to search or identify transactions is through their internal ID.
See how turning off the internal ID setting affects the Chart of Accounts list.
There is the account name, account number, and all the other information about the account, except for the internal ID column.
Setting Preferences for Internal ID (turned on)
Now, to show the internal IDs on the chart of accounts, just follow these simple steps.
- Go to home
- Settings
- Set preference
- Check the box for “Show Internal IDs” and save
If you take a look back at the Chart of Accounts, you will now see the Internal ID column.
Having the internal ID in sight will help you avoid confusion with similar names when you need to update multiple accounts in one go.
When this setting is turned on, it also affects the list or transactions, like in Sales Order list below.
Here, you are able to see the internal ID to which each sales order item is related to.
